Image

The Green Futures Loan Program helps local businesses and non-profits in the Lac La Biche region adopt clean technologies, renewable energy, and sustainable solutions — building a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come.

What is the Green Futures Loan Program

The Green Futures Loan Program is a Community Futures Lac La Biche initiative designed to help local businesses and non-profits invest in clean technologies, renewable energy, and sustainable innovations that strengthen our regional economy.

Through flexible and accessible financing, Green Futures supports projects that save energy, reduce emissions, and create long-term value for our community. Whether you’re upgrading to solar, improving your efficiency, or adopting new technology, this program helps turn your ideas into action.

Aligned with the Government of Canada’s Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy, Green Futures empowers northern Alberta to take part in the transition to a low-carbon future — one project, one business, and one community at a time.

Why Go Green?

Going green isn’t just good for the environment — it’s smart business. The Green Futures Loan Program helps local businesses and agribusinesses invest in technologies that lower costs, improve efficiency, and future-proof operations.

By adopting renewable energy or upgrading to cleaner, more efficient systems, you can:

  • Save money through reduced energy and maintenance costs
  • Improve reliability with modern equipment and resilient systems
  • Boost your brand as a sustainability leader in the community
  • Access new funding opportunities through government clean technology programs
  • Contribute to local growth by supporting a stronger, more sustainable Lac La Biche economy

Together, these benefits make sustainability a competitive advantage — not just a responsibility.

Need matching funds for a grant?
We can help.

Some clean technology and innovation grants require businesses to contribute their own investment — often called owners’ equity or matching funds. Through the Green Futures Loan Program, Community Futures Lac La Biche can provide equity-based financing to help meet those requirements.

Your Green Futures loan can also be used to complement external grant programs. Across Alberta, several funding opportunities exist for businesses investing in clean energy, efficiency, and sustainability. While we don’t administer these grants directly, we can help you identify programs that align with your goals.

Ineligible Projects and Expenses

Some projects or costs may fall outside the scope of the Green Futures Loan Program. Ineligible items include:

  • Projects or expenses not directly related to environmental efficiency or sustainability outcomes
  • Residential or personal-use projects (home solar, personal EV chargers, etc.)
  • Routine maintenance or repair work without measurable efficiency or innovation improvements
  • New or used equipment not supported by a certified vendor quote
  • Leased, rented, or financed equipment purchased through third-party arrangements
  • Consulting, design, or permit fees not included in a vendor quote
  • Municipal or government-owned projects
  • Projects already completed or expenses incurred before loan approval

If you’re unsure whether your project qualifies, our team can help assess your proposal before you apply.
